Profanity warning. Serious RANT warning.
Alright, I have to vent on this trend in celebrities getting caught cheating entering sex addiction rehab clinics. Unless the “therapists” are whacking them in the balls with a Louisville Slugger (multiple times!) I call Bullshit.
Lets face it, if Joe Six-pack cheats on his wife, he’s a cheater. This means he was incapable of honoring a vow, remaining faithful to his wife and forsaking all others. In other words, he suffered a moral and character breakdown/violation of sorts. (Not meaning to exclude women cheaters, but as I am a man, I will simply stick to the pronoun him, but rest assured it applies to women as well). This doesn’t mean he could not be forgiven, though I’m not really sure how that would work (future trust issues). But the neighbors, family and friends certainly aren’t going to cut him slack for being a “sex addict”. No, that’s reserved for celebrities.
Well, screw that. Celebrities – this means you David Duchovny, Tiger Woods and Jesse James – you are cheaters. Plain and simple. You cheated. Because you were famous and could exert your persona to get the normally unobtainable…the old adage about power and corruption comes to mind. Don’t call it “sex addiction” so you can get sympathy or save your careers or whatever the hell you are using it for.
And while I have no doubt that there are people who DO, in fact, suffer from something called sex addiction, I doubt they have much luck controlling it or integrating into society. I would imagine they are probably very upset/distraught about their problem and maybe even suffer from other issues as a side effect, and certainly would not want to admit publicly to such a thing. Them, I feel for. I wish them luck in their treatment. Or even if they want to embrace it, I wish them luck in that.
What these celebrities have done seems more to me like what would happen if the stereotypical “nerd” from high school suddenly became famous or popular and could basically get any woman he wanted as a result, and used that ability to date/sleep with many women. While not necessarily the best use of that fame (I guess that depends) or showing the best moral character (if you subscribe to that sort of thing), as long as he wasn’t married, I really don’t have an issue (in theory) with it. It’s somewhat “understandable”. But the instant you get married or otherwise make a commitment, that’s all off the table.
I’m sick of hearing about this crap. Keep your junk in your pants. There are people with real problems in the world.

Wikipedia link to Sex Addiction here. I still contend these peoples behaviors do not seem to qualify (Carnes 9-10, Goodman 6-7), though I don't know all the details of their lives. I still feel like my gut reaction/feelings as expressed above are accurate.
